Oakdale Recovery Center has a multi-disciplined staff that is experienced and knowledgeable within the fields of Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health.
The Oakdale Recovery Center staff is devoted to providing a safe and supportive environment and will assist you to develop an individualized treatment program that will build upon your strengths and help you with your recovery. The staff have personal and/or professional experience with Substance Use Disorders and believe that this blend of experiences will provide you with the best opportunity to build a strong foundation for your recovery.
Philip A. Gilly, MD, FASAM
Medical Director/Staff Physician
Dr. Philip A. Gilly is an Addictionologist who joined Hegira Health and Oakdale Recovery Center in November 2020. He received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine in New York City and completed a Family Practice residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Gilly is Board Certified in Family Medicine (since 1985) and in Addiction Medicine (since 2010) by the American Board of Addiction Medicine-ABAM. In 2019 he was also certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine-ABPM. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
Dr. Gilly practiced office-based primary care for over 20 years before transitioning in 2007 to addiction medicine full-time. He joined the Maplegrove Center in West Bloomfield, Michigan, a free-standing Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment facility of the Henry Ford Health System in 2011. Dr. Gilly was responsible for developing the treatment protocols for both the inpatient and outpatient services. He was also responsible for developing and presenting an annual lecture series introducing addiction medicine to the psychiatry residents in a series of twelve lectures at Henry Ford Hospital.
Fellow physicians have twice chosen him as one of the ten Top Docs in Addiction Medicine in the Detroit/Southeast Michigan area in 2017 and 2019. Dr. Gilly is passionate about teaching the medical model of substance use disorders and the bio-psycho-social approach to treatment to both patients and colleagues.
Teri Baker, LMSW, CAADC, CCS-M
Program Manager
Teri received her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Michigan and worked for many years in the field of grief and loss. She then obtained her MSW from Wayne State University. Her second-year internship was at Oakdale Recovery Center, where she was introduced to the field of substance use disorder counseling. She now has over 19 years’ experience working with dually diagnosed clients. She has her CAADC (Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor) and her CCS-M (Certified Clinical Supervisor of Michigan) certifications. After working many years as a primary therapist and then the Clinical Director of another facility, she became Program Manager of Oakdale in March of 2016. She is thrilled that one of her roles is to aid in supervising interns, helping to them progress in their experience and coming full circle to where she began.
Brian Burrell, BA
Brian Burrell is completing his Master Degree in Counseling He earned his undergraduate degrees in Family Life Education. He serves in the position of Substance Abuse Therapist at Oakdale Recovery Center. Before coming to Hegira he worked as Program Director for a one-year residential program. Brian has worked in the field of addiction for over twenty years. Brian has also earned many awards for his work in the community and has been recognized by the press for working with those that struggle with addiction.
Jon Dohring, LLMSW
Jon is one of our IOP therapist and started working at Oakdale Recovery Center in October, 2016. He obtained his Bachelor's of Social Work from Madonna University in 2014 and went on to obtain his Master's of Social Work from Wayne State University, in 2016. Jon is currently working towards obtaining his CAADC certification.
Heather Estill, MA LPC, LCDC, ICAADC, CAADC
Heather is the lead therapist and substance use disorders specialist at Oakdale Recovery Center. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Family Studies and Substance Abuse from Central Michigan University, her Masters degree from Western Michigan University in Community Mental Health Counseling with an advanced specialization in Alcohol and Drug Abuse and is finishing her Doctoral degree in Behavioral Health from Arizona State University. Heather is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in Texas as well as internationally certified (ICAADC) through MCBAP. She recently completed training allowing her to supervise counselors with limited licenses in the state of Michigan and looks forward to passing along her passions to the next generation of helping professionals.
Tiffany Jones, AAS, BS, MA
Tiffany is a Case Manager at Oakdale Recovery Center. She has an Associates in Human Services and a Bachelor's in Health Service Administration from Baker College and a Master's in Economics and Master's Certificates in Finance and Management from Walsh College. Over the past 18 years, Tiffany has focused her career in the nonprofit sector and has held positions working with the homeless population, health care advocacy, mental health court, and corrections to name a few. Tiffany has been with Hegira since March of 2016.
Valerie Jones MA, LPC / ACSS
Valerie Jones is an independently licensed professional counselor who began working in the field of behavioral health in January 2001 in Phoenix, Arizona. She has a B.A. degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling.
Among the populations, she has served are adults with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, and general mental health concerns. She has also worked with adolescents in substance abuse prevention and treatment.
Valerie’s professional experience ranges from inpatient to outpatient settings in both Arizona and Michigan.
Hailey Penzak, MS, TLLP
Hailey graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Russian Linguistics. She then graduated with her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Madonna University. Hailey has extensive experience with the Criminal Justice System. She also has experience working with children and adolescents, as well as adults dealing with addiction/substance dependence, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. Hailey incorporates a blend of therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavior therapy, psychotherapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing. Hailey also has training in the realm of crisis intervention. Hailey believes that creating a supportive environment through positive thinking and learning coping skills creates the best outcome for clients.
Arguster (Gus) Shaw, LLMSW, CAADC
Gus has worked and had a passion for the Mental Health field since 1993, but his desire and work began much earlier. He is employed full-time with Word of Faith International Christian Center since 1989. Since March 2011, he has worked part-time for Oakdale Recovery Center and enjoys the environment. His goal is to perform responsibilities that promote individuals' and families' wellness also wholeness through educational processes.
Kimbery Varga, LLMSW
Kimberly is an Intensive Outpatient and Day Treatment therapist here at Oakdale Recovery Center. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Social Work degree and received her Master of Social Work degree at the University of Michigan. Kimberly completed two field placements working in substance abuse and mental health and has a passion for working with this population.
Brittany Webb, LLMSW
Brittany Webb graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and later with a Master of Social Work degree specializing in Interpersonal Practice and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Brittany has experience working in forensic social work, misdemeanor probation, mental health, and substance abuse treatment.
